Interview with an Artist: Sarrah Zadeh
Interview with an Artist is a series where we, Galerie House, spotlight artists in our world. Our goal is to celebrate their work, and inspire our community to never stop chasing their creative spirits.
Galerie House : Explain what you do in 100 words or less.
Sarrah : I create what I feel using different mediums, but I work mainly with oil. I like to show human connections and social standards with all of its problems, especially the ones for women. I try to tell stories with my work, and to make people think, while at the same time adding a bit of humor and beauty. For me art needs to narrate a message while being aesthetically pleasing and authentic.
Galerie House: How has your professional path evolved overtime?
Sarrah: I have always been an artist, but it was not until recently that I felt comfortable with actually calling myself an artist. I grew up with this belief or goal of being financially independent and very stable. And unfortunately making a living with art is not as stable as other industries. I dabbled in so many different things and without fail I would always come back to art. So finally I took the hard decision of following my gut, and the journey as an artist for me has evolved in such a beautiful and natural way.
Galerie House : If you could tell your younger self something, what would it be?
Sara: I would tell my younger self to really enjoy yourself to the fullest because those days will not come back. To never leave things for tomorrow. I would also say do not be afraid of rejection, of trying and failing.
Lastly to always hug the people you love as much as you can and let them know you love them.
Galerie House : What are you excited to do in the next 5 years?
Sarrah: Im excited to finally launch my website, and to work further on my art, growing as an artist. My goal for the next five years is to have an international exhibition, I love the arts from Spain, Mexico, Italy, and UK. It is a big goal, but why not? Also, in the next five years I hope to be more present in my life and surroundings.
Galerie House : Describe your dream dinner party.
Sarrah: My Dream dinner party would be in Baja Sardinia, in the terrace of some oceanfront villa with the view of the water.
The guests would be my mother, who passed four years ago, Albert Camus, Simone de Beauvoir, Kafka, Spanish director Luis Bunuel, Ella Fitzgerald, and Castro (I’m a little indecisive with him, not sure how fun he would be).
We would be drinking bottles of Amarone (2013), I LOVE wine, and our food would consist of colorful Mediterranean tapas, especially the local cheese.
We would be talking about everything and anything without any filters, while happily drunk, with Marley playing in the background, because who doesn’t want to be blissfully drunk listening to Marley!
